Custom Document Types – Define Your Own Document Types from Scratch

Custom documents in LoMag are user-defined document types that can be created from scratch. These documents may be related to warehouse operations or completely independent of inventory management.

They can be quickly generated using predefined templates, which saves time and effort in preparation.

1. Creating a Custom Document

To create a custom document, click the Settings icon, then in the opened window click Create a new type.

Next, select Definable document from the Base Type list. Set the document name (e.g., "Mileage Log") and abbreviation (e.g., "ML"). After filling out the fields, click OK. A new document type has now been created.

2. Adding Dedicated Columns

Custom documents can contain various data, depending on their purpose. To enable data entry, define the necessary Dedicated Columns in the newly created document.

Go to the Dedicated Columns tab in Settings and select Definable document from the A table with dedicated columns. Click the Add button to add new columns.

In the popup, enter the column name and select the column type. In our example, we create a dropdown list named "Vehicle Name" using the "Defined Dropdown" field type. Click OK.

Each dedicated column can have its own set of values. To edit values for the dropdown, select the "Vehicle Name" column and click Edit value dictionary.

In the dictionary, add the desired values (e.g., Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2) using the Add button and confirm with OK. You can also add other fields. Close the window by clicking Close.

3. Adding Elements to a Custom Document

You can add various of Elements of a definable document. Follow the same process as adding columns — click Add and define the elements.

For example, the document can include: "Travel Date" (Date type), "Travel purpose" (Text type), and "Distance traveled (km)" (Numeric type).

4. Generating a Document from a Custom Template

To create a document using a custom template, go to the Documents tab and select the template (in our case: Mileage Log).

In the new window, choose the predefined values such as Vehicle Name. You can enter values for both predefined vehicles.

To input data into the document, click Add. You’ll see previously defined rows such as Travel Date, Travel Purpose, and Distance Travelled.

Once the document is complete, you can print or save it by clicking the appropriate buttons.

5. Designing the Appearance of the Custom Document

LoMag allows you to fully design the layout of a custom document. To do this, click the Labels Template Editor icon. In the opened window, you can edit content, layout, table positioning, alignment, underlining, or bold specific data.

To show or hide certain columns, left-click the table to select it, then right-click and choose Table Configuration.

Use the arrow buttons to add, remove, or reorder columns.

To remove fields from the document, right-click and select Delete. You can replace them with new ones, such as a new "Vehicle Name" text field from the list on the left. Then drag the field Vehicle Name into the template.

To preview the document, click Print Document.

6. Adding a Shortcut Button for a Custom Document

LoMag allows you to create a shortcut button for quick access to your custom document, so you don’t have to search for it each time in the Documents tab. To do this, right-click the toolbar and choose Customize.

From the list of Available Buttons, select your custom document (in this case, "Mileage Log"). Click the right arrow to add the button to the Toolbar. You can also set the button’s position using the arrows. Finally, click OK.

Now, to create a new document based on your template, just click the added button.
